Group Details

The Teen Skills for Life Group is a weekly DBT-based skills training program for teens ages 13–17 (or 18 if still in high school) who are ready to feel more in control of their emotions, relationships, and reactions. It’s structured, supportive, and led by therapists who know how to connect with teens on their level—without judgment or fluff.

This is an adherent DBT skills group, where participants learn all four core modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. The full program is a six-month commitment, allowing enough time to learn, practice, and apply every skill.

DBT is an evidence-based treatment proven to help those struggling with self-harm, suicidal thoughts, depression, and anxiety. Teens gain a practical toolbox for coping with big emotions and making choices that move them toward a life worth living—instead of acting on impulsive urges that can make things worse.

The group is facilitated by Jess Mccrosky, who is intensively trained in DBT and passionate about helping teens build balance, confidence, and hope.

In This Group, Your Teen Will Learn How To:

  • Stay grounded in the moment instead of spiraling into fear or overwhelm

  • Tolerate distress without shutting down or acting out

  • Understand and regulate their emotions (less drama, more stability)

  • Navigate friendships and family relationships with more confidence

  • Reduce harmful behaviors by building healthy coping strategies

  • Practice “checking the facts” instead of reacting from assumptions

  • Create a sense of identity, purpose, and a life that feels worth showing up for

Why It Works

This group goes beyond “talking it out.” It trains teens to handle life differently—with evidence-based DBT skills that are relevant, teachable, and practical. Many teens actually like the structure of the group, because it’s focused on learning, not pressure.

And the group dynamic? It’s powerful.
There’s something healing about being in a space where you’re not the only one struggling. Where you don’t have to explain everything. Where you can show up and just be you.
