Skills for Life Groups
(DBT)
Change starts with tools you can use in real life.
Skills for Life Groups at Beaches Therapy are where change actually begins. These aren’t talk-it-out circles or vague emotional check-ins. These are high-impact, evidence-based training groups rooted in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)—built to help you gain control over your emotions, your relationships, and your life.
DBT. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
Helps individuals manage intense emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and reduce self-harm and suicidal behaviors.
Skills for Life Groups
What Makes These Groups Different?
They’re not support groups. You don’t have to share your life story. You don’t even have to talk if you don’t want to. These groups are about learning and applying real-world tools—not venting.
They’re not open-ended. Each group follows a structured 24-week DBT curriculum focused on skill-building. You’ll walk away with actual strategies that help you navigate your life.
They’re not therapy. You’ll still need your individual therapist—but this is where you build the muscle for emotional regulation, boundaries, and clarity between sessions.
They’re not soft. We don’t coddle—but we do care. Fiercely. You’ll be guided every step of the way by a team that knows how to make these tools land in real life.
What You’ll Learn
Each session builds toward real, life-changing skills across 4 core modules:
Learn how to stay in the moment, stop reacting on autopilot, and actually feel present in your life. This is the foundation of all other DBT skills.
Mindfulness
Learn how to stay in the moment, stop reacting on autopilot, and actually feel present in your life. This is the foundation of all other DBT skills.
Distress Tolerance
Understand your emotions instead of being overwhelmed by them. Learn how to reduce reactivity, increase stability, and feel more in control—even when life is hard.
Emotion Regulation
Master the art of boundaries, asking for what you need, and saying no without losing your self-respect—or the people you care about.
Interpersonal Effectiveness
What to Expect Each Week
Mindfulness Practice: Start every session with a grounding technique you can actually use outside of therapy.
Homework Review: Real-world assignments help you apply the week’s skill in your life. Didn’t do it? No shame—we’ll troubleshoot together.
New Skill Training: Learn a new DBT skill every week—presented clearly and applied directly to the challenges you’re facing.
Who Are These Groups For?
You don’t need a specific diagnosis to benefit from DBT. These groups are for anyone who:
Feels emotions deeply and struggles to regulate them
Has a hard time communicating needs, setting boundaries, or handling conflict
Finds themselves stuck in reactive cycles with partners, parents, friends, or coworkers
Is tired of feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or emotionally “too much”
Wants to feel more grounded, more clear, and more in control
Common Questions?
“I’m not a group person.”
Totally fair. But this isn’t a traditional group. You’ll never be forced to share. You’ll never be put on the spot. You’ll just learn—alongside others who want to grow, too.
“I’ve tried other groups and they didn’t help.”
Then you’ve never been in a DBT skills group run by people who live this work. This is structured, practical, and guided. It’s a training ground, not a therapy circle.
